I’m With Fatty: Losing Fifty Pounds in Fifty Miserable Weeks
By Edward Ugel

I liked Edward Ugel’s book, I’m with Fatty: Losing 50 Pounds in 50 Miserable Weeks, because it mixed humor with the individual and unique struggles each person has in trying to lose weight. Mr. Ugel is unique in that he knew how to prepare food in delicious and desirable ways and also knew how to choose quality ingredients.

However, he didn’t exercise and seemed to spend lots of time and energy obtaining his favorite foods in an effort to achieve yet another sensory and gastronomical experienece. His wake-up call came with his diagnosis of sleep apnea and realizing that 263 pounds was excessive for his frame and desired lifespan. He used a wide variety of resources to achieve his goal of 216 pounds: personal trainer (daily workouts), nutritionist, food journal, racquetball, and family support.

It wasn’t an easy path for Ugel—he had plenty of set-backs, which made the journey more real and applicable to us all.
